As you may or may not know, 97.5 WTHK FM (The Hawk) is being taken off the air this winter due to a change in management.
This makes me sad. I've been a Hawk rocker since they were 94.5 (just look at my ceiling; there's an old poster there. XD), and the Classic RockFest September '04 was not only a big part of my freshman year, it was also my first real rock concert.
But! Hold on to hope, there's what I refer to as a 'back-up' version of the station. 105.7 FM is also The Hawk, but runs in a different format. The deejays are different ('Dr. Philly' instead of Jim Spectre in the afternoons... ;-, save for Free Beer and Hot Wings (in the same morning slot), and instead of '20 Song Music Marathons at Nine, Noon, and Five,' there are 'Hour-and-a-Half Free Flight Marathons.' They also play slightly different selections. 97.5 is more mainstream, while 105.7 leans more twoard the deeper cuts, the stuff you don't always hear on the radio.
I've also taken the liberty of, er, finding some other stations, just in case both Hawks are included in the management change (I'm not sure; the extent of my information consists of a tiny blurb in a Poconos newspaper that said 'The Hawk' had changed management and was being converted to an alt-rock station).
Some of my finds are:
95.7 WBEN FM
-- A nice mix of just about everything, modern and classic. This one's been around for quite a while, too... And they will literally play just about anything!
95.9 WRAT FM
--These guys play a lot of Metallica and Ozzy, but they do stick in some mainstream classic rock or hair metal occasionally (hence their showing up at the Poison/Cinderella concert... XD).
100.7 WZXL FM
-- Beware of alt-rock! XD They're just a 'rock' station (and that's a pretty broad term), so you'll get everything from Guns N' Roses to Nickelback to Pearl Jam to Lynyrd Skynyrd. You never know what you'll end up with when you listen to this station, but it's usually okay. ((Yes, I know from experience. I'm listening to it right now)).
530 WCPR AM
-- Look, an AM station! Rare... Anywho, this one's run as a course in a Hoboken university, but it does run 24/7, and there's some nice stuff on there! Like the 80's Rock and 80's Metal shows... Which I'm quite partial to.
------80's Rock: 6-8 a.m. every day; 3-4 p.m. every day; 7-8 p.m. Monday, Friday Saturday, Sunday.
------80's Metal: 2-3 a.m. every day; 9:30-10 p.m. Wednesday; 9-10 p.m. Firday, Saturday, Sunday.
WCPR has a web site: wcpr.stevens-tech.edu/index.html So go check out the other stuff they air! (Example: 'Otaku Radio' J-Rock show Monday 8-10 p.m.)
There you go. This made me feel a little better about possibly losing my favorite radio station. And, if you want to continue the search for a good radio station in the Jersey area, jerseymusic.com is a good place to start...
